Tempting the Light: Legends and Myths Police Squad (L.A.M.P.S. Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 216 ratings

Bad luck magnet Abby Fitzpatrick gets fired, catches her boyfriend cheating with a mime, and is cursed by an evil genie who pops out of a tampon box. She’s bound and determined to remove the spell and, as fate would have it, the hottest guy she’s ever met is out to kill her.

River Stone, a Cryptid hunter for Legends and Myths Police Squad (L.A.M.P.S.), poses as sheriff for Abby’s hometown of Haber Cove, New Jersey. He’s out to find and capture a man-eating gnome and bag the legendary Jersey Devil monster. Little does he realize, the woman who catches his heart is the same creature that he was sent to destroy.

Tempting the Light is the first novel in the L.A.M.P.S. series that features hunky secret agents who find true love while hunting and slaying dangerous Cryptids.

Although I have long been interested and involved in paranormal research and activities, I have never read a book of the “Romance” genre. “Into the Light” was the first. As a man, one thing that attracted me first was the cover. Then the write-up. It was done in a way that piqued my interest and enticed me to read more. Especially when I saw about the Jersey Devil.
When a script or book is well written, I become involved in the story itself. That is how it was with this book. Right from the start, I was able to visualize the plot, location and what each person looked like. I was hooked.
One day when I was about two-thirds through the book I resumed reading and read into the night until I finished it. Every time I was at a point where the pace slowed, the author inserted a new twist. I was like “Wow, I wasn’t expecting that”.
The book was a good blend of romance, sex, fantasy and humor. Especially the Tampon box. That was a different twist. I became so involved in the story that I was disappointed to see it end. I hope the author is considering a sequel or series.
Any man who has ever considered reading a paranormal romance book should read this one.

I found this book by accident and I’m glad I did. It’s such a unique book and not something I’ve read before, because it’s not every day a genie comes out of a tampon box and curses you.
Abby is having the worst day of her life and finding out she is cursed and once a month she will turn into a creature she has no control of is just the icing on the cake of her crappy day. After a run in with the new sheriff she wonders if her luck might be changing.
River, the new sheriff in town, isn’t exactly what you see. He has a bigger job. Find monsters and kill them. He was sent to the small town of Harbor Cove to do just that. When River takes one look at Abby and he forgets what he is supposed to be doing.
When the Jersey Devil and the Gnome start causing problems River calls in a friend to help him hunt down the Crypdides. When the body count starts rising, when secrets are revealed, and when someone he cares about is at risk River must make one of the hardest decisions of his life. Do what he is in town to do, kill the monster, or go after the person he loves.

The book is amazing and funny right from the start. I’m glad I discovered this wonderful new author. Bonnie Gill propels us into the world of live Gnomes, tampon genies, and Jersey Devils, and makes it so you never want to leave.

This was a cute little Paranormal Romance. I'd consider it a YA, but some of the sexual scenes might limit it to older teens. There is an evil Gnome, a nasty Genie, and the Heroine is cursed to become a Jersey Devil. There are also other mentions of supernatural species that do not play a role in this story.

The book could use further editing. It is not a long book, so being over descriptive of mundane things is a waste of words. I mean, who cares how the microwave oven beeped and how difficult it was to open a package? I would have preferred more character depth and background on the town.

L.A.M.P.S. was an interesting organization created to deal with Supernatural species. But the rules of the organization should be clarified better. At one point it was stated that they captured or destroyed murderous species, and only catalogued the friendly ones. But then later River was given orders to capture the killer Gnome--but to kill the Jersey Devil (who hadn't harmed anyone).

The ending was ok, and implied a HEA. Overall it was an entertaining read, but I'm not sure if I'll continue to the next book; as this one didn't really 'Wow' me.

Oh. My. God. You have to read this book. If you love paranormal romance with a twist of humor, Bonnie Gill’s new release, Tempting the Light should have a place on your reading shelf.

Gill set her story in contemporary New Jersey where Abby Fitzgerald finds herself living out her family’s notorious curse. And the worst part isn’t that a tampon genie cursed her on the first day of her period every month – no, the worst part for Abby is the man she’s fallen in love with is the one man who’s been sent to destroy her thanks to her damned curse.

River Stone works for the Legends and Myths Paranormal Squad hunting Cryptids and keeping humans safe. When he takes a new assignment where he must stop or kill a man eating gnome and the legendary Jersey Devil, the last thing he expects is to fall for the lovely Abby. She’s entranced him, yet she changes into the notorious Jersey Devil.

I loved this story. How can these two lovers resolve this impasse? Will Abby find a way to stop the curse? How will River resolve his professional duty with what his heart tells him must be? They garner some help from their friends Pepper and Ottar, secondary characters who are hilariously drawn and promise a future story of their own, I hope.

No spoilers here. You’ll have to nab yourself a copy and see how Abby and River resolve their impossible dilemma and deal with their inevitable romance.

I laughed all the way to the end. If you love paranormal romance, have a soft spot in your heart for animals, love a happily ever after yet yearn for a twist of humor to lighten the mood, treat yourself to a copy of this book.

I’ll be looking forward to more from Bonnie Gill and the L.A.M.P.S. sexy Cryptid hunters.

I was given an ARC of the novel in exchange for my honest review.

The characters are likable and interesting and the plot kept me turning pages. I will definately read this again. A real lighthearted romp with great humorous parts!

This book displays humor as it conjures a genie in a tampon. Yes a genies in a tampon box, and a horrid gnome. With a couple of sexy scenes to make sizzle and good characters it's an easy breezy read. Although not the most lavish book out there i like that in hard world books like this can lighten the mood.

Don't miss this one! Captivating characters on a wild supernatural ride with a playful spark of romance. Tempting the Light has humour and sass in a world inhabited by monsters that aren't the same old, same old. Looking forward to more from the L.A.M.P.S. series!

2.0 out of 5 stars DNF - didn't enjoy what I read so gave up

A DNF for me. Our heroine is cursed but is also not that interesting a character. Gave up before I got halfway through. Just didn't want to waste my life on this.
